call it magic

It's been awhile! Life has been so busy lately! As a result, our blog has been neglected. As well, Sam and I have been taking some time to really think about what sort of content we want to share. I'm looking forward for us to be in the same city so we can really brainstorm, and to obviously spend time together.

While we mull things over, our posts will be sporadic. But today, I have some silly outfit shots to share!

These pants could very well be a work uniform! I think half the girls I work with own these pants. It's fantastic though, because they are suuuuuper comfortable and super fun! It's like wearing pyjamas, but seemingly more dressy. Next time I wear them, I intend to pair them with my favorite lace-up pink suede wedges. The choices are endless!

My only thing is about fun pants is having top options! Especially since they are high waisted with an elastic waistband, it's hard to decide the right shirt to wear with the pants without looking too casual. Especially for work. This shirt seems to go well with most all of my high waisted pants (which is uhhh, mostly all of them), and shows off my unfinished tattoo!

While cleaning and re-organizing my closet last night, I realized that in the past couple years my clothing choices have gotten a lot more colourful. Throughout the end of high school and most of university my entire wardrobe consisted of black and grey. While this is still holds true for my basics, I have thrown in some colourful patterns and florals in to mix it up. I'm really enjoying it!

I hope all is well with all of you, and we look forward to sharing more soon!

Thanks to Jess for taking these photos!

little things

As usual, here is my (Gabi's) little slice of ridiculous outfit posting. Another shout-out to V for taking my outfit photos (aka holding down the button and not telling me if she is taking photos and me asking her to take more). But it works. I don't know if they're necessarily "blog-worthy" but hey, I'll share them anyway.

Well, I realized you can't even see the detail of the dress that I'm wearing. So here I am, including some really awesome mirror shots so you can see exactly what it is I was wearing.

I mentioned in my last post that I had just started a new job at Roadtrip, a boutique in the Byward Market. Well, I've been there a few weeks now and am really enjoying it. One of my favourite things is that it's a bit slower paced than selling shoes in a mall—which means I can dress up and layer and wear high heels for my shift—and not have to climb ladders/shelves or be constantly running back and forth. Another bonus is that I get to wear all the shoes that I own! My last job was at Aldo, and when each new season rolled around it typically meant buying new shoes and having something from the new collection. This means I have a lot of shoes I haven't gotten to wear too much since most are a bit too dressy for my day to day.

I have been quite busy with school, as well as my two volunteer positions. Not only that, but my little rescue kitty got fixed this week which meant some coordinating of my schedule. I have been just wanting to hug the little guy constantly cause he's a bit wobbly and extra cute from the anaesthesia and pain meds they gave him. Tonight I may have laid on our living room floor with the two cats and bunny running around singing songs to them and Val.... just maybe.

So anyway, I have been having a lot of fun dressing up for work. It's been fun outfit planning, photographing and sharing. I have a looooot of clothes and shoes, and it finally feels like I have an occasion to wear them all. Because quite honestly, if I wasn't working, I'd be wearing flowy tshirts, leggings or jeans and boots all the time.

Well. I wish I had some more silly things to share with you on this week's edition of Gabi attempting to be a style blogger... but alas, I don't think there is too much. This past weekend was spent getting certified in First Aid/CPR and spending time with the pets and friends. We didn't get to drink enough wine (see: First Aid course) but hopefully this weekend we will get to get rectify that.

Hope you all are having a great week so far! Also... the title of this post comes from the Vitamin String Quartet's tribute to Good Charlotte. Yes, you read this correctly. Orchestral Good Charlotte. Enjoy.

work attire

Well, once again, fashion blogger I am not... But this whole thing is about our lives and getting by and what not, and for both Sam and I we loooove clothes. I think the past couple days we've been texting each other saying "Let's go shopping!".... except for the fact that we are about a 4 hour flight apart.

So this is how I figure it is going to go down... Gabi and outfit posts is really going to just be telling a strange story about how outfit photos came to be. Because today is a good one. Before I continue, here's a shout out to my lovely roommate Val for playing 'fashion blog boyfriend' and taking photos for me.

I am currently in mid-cold. I call it mid-cold because I felt a sore throat coming on Monday evening, and I promptly went and purchased a bunch of homeopathic remedies (some stuff for sore throat, flu busters, oil of oregano) and when I got home swallowed it all down. I think that plus sleeping all day yesterday helped, because today I am feeling much better although I do have a runny nose. But since I did so much sleeping on Tuesday this morning was a bit of a shit show.

My everyday routine is still in the works. I just started a new job at this cute little boutique Roadtrip in the Byward Market; one of my volunteer gigs is finishing up training which means I can start taking on official shifts, and school is just getting into full swing. This means I am attached to my email and my planner. So this morning as I was getting ready, I had to squeeze in taking a shower, sending a bunch of emails with my availability out, take outfit photos, eat lunch... and squeeze in some snuggle time with the cats. That's clearly the number 1 priority.

So this was my work outfit today. Although I did change my pants when I got to work, because I purchased a lovely pair of Mavi jeans.  The outfit didn't change, but I gotta say... my bottom half felt wayyy more comfortable—these jeans feel like leggings and are mucho more comfortable than the ones I was wearing in these photos. If you are in the Ottawa-land, you should come by and try them on... cause I am telling you... I'm a black jeans-only girl and super picky, and am pretty pleased about these pants. Yes, this was a paragraph about jeans.

To finish this post off, I just wanted to share with you all that this is our 2nd week with my newest kitty cat friend Wilbur. He's getting comfy in his new house, and we are really learning all the tricks this cat has up his sleeve! He knows how to open doors... and this morning Val left the food cupboard open and all of a sudden I hear this noise.... it's Wilbur. Jumping up to grab an open jar of catnip with his paws. He tried to pull it down (I think he thinks he has thumbs) and it fell, and before I know it, Wilbur is rolling around in catnip heaven, and Sheldon (our other cat) came by to join in on the action. It's a never ending circus/zoo around here! Overall though, I am loving having him in our house and am more than happy to oblige to copious amounts of kitty and bunny snuggles.

Well then! Hope you are all having a lovely week so far, and hope that the rest of your week continues that way!

sequins

Last month I visited San Francisco with my parents. It was a lovely trip—we did a lot of eating, drinking, and walking around. We spent one of our afternoons wandering around Haight-Ashbury where I found a few treasures. Namely, a sequinned top and a sequinned jacket.

If you know me in real life, you have probably heard of the "Gabi in a tutu" stories, or the "Gabi with crazy makeup" stories. If you have known me for some time now, then you got to see me sporting some pretty strange looks on a regular basis. So for you, this outfit shouldn't be too surprising. However, for the rest of you, let this be an intro (or perhaps a re-introduction) into "Gabi wears weird clothes".

Well, I hope you enjoyed this little photo montage! A special shout out to Carole who snapped these photos of me today while walking around campus. It was fun being sparkly and seeing all the strange looks I received in my 830am class! Oh, and here is the rest of the outfit...

Hope you are all having a fantastic Wednesday!
